Mineral Ingredients
At Back in Balance Minerals®, we believe that nothing should be confusing or hidden in a list of ingredients. You should know and understand what you are getting in the products. Most of the ingredients are easily recognized but please feel free to ask if you have questions.
However, there are 2 things that may not be familiar to many people. Hydrated calcium aluminosilicate and hydrated sodium aluminosilicate are zeolites. They are mined from the ground, not synthetic. You can read more about these zeolites at www.bearriverzeolite.com.
Selenium is a trace mineral essential to health and on many farms, often deficient or unable to be absorbed from the diet. Back in Balance Minerals® formulas contain chelated selenium in amounts needed to meet the nutritional needs of animals on most farms. However, selenium levels in mineral products are regulated. This means some farms may require more selenium than can be provided by a mineral formula. If you believe you need additional selenium, please contact Alethea for information on how to add back in chelated selenium (the better choice) in amounts that meet the needs of your animals. For more information on selenium, its uses in the body, toxicity and deficiency, see www.backinbalanceminerals.com/selenium.html
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact Alethea. If you would like information about getting the mineral products approved for organic certified operations, please let Alethea know and she can get you what information you need.

FAQ-Frequently Asked Questions
1. "I've been told to look for a goat mineral with no less than 1500 ppm copper. Your mineral has much less, is this going to meet the needs of my goats?"
Answer: Yes it should! The reason is because most mineral formulas use an elemental form of copper to get to those 1500 ppm and these forms of minerals are not at all well absorbed. Sometimes as little as 20-30% is digested, leaving 70-80% to be eliminated unchanged. These mineral formulas rely on adding a larger amount of trace minerals in the hopes that some will be digested and absorbed.
Back in Balance Minerals® uses chelated trace minerals which are almost 100% available for digestion. Each mineral is carefully considered in ratio to other minerals in the mix to provide for the needs of animals on most farms. There is no need to add in amounts in extreme excess of the mineral needs of the animals to compensate for indigestibility.
2. "My animals really love this mix, will they stop eating it when they get enough?"
Answer: They should. Back in Balance Minerals® have no molasses or extra salt to allow animals' instincts to play a part in how much mineral they eat. They should eat to meet their dietary needs, not because it tastes good.
However, this may mean they eat larger amounts initially if their diet has not been providing what they needed. If you have questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask Alethea.
